Introduction

The School of Physics at Renmin University of China was officially established in July 2024. Its predecessor was the Department of Physics, which was founded in 2005. It is a research-oriented school of physics established by Renmin University of China on the basis of the original Department of Physics to further promote the high-quality development of the physics discipline, better serve the construction of a strong country in science and technology, and accelerate the realization of high-level scientific and technological self-reliance and self-improvement. The School of Physics takes it as its responsibility to cultivate top-notch innovative talents. It has an operation and management model in line with international standards, excellent teaching conditions, outstanding scientific research capabilities, and active international exchanges. It is a rising star among the well-known physics departments in domestic and international universities.

Achievements: The School of Physics currently offers two undergraduate majors, namely Physics and Materials Physics. It possesses a doctoral degree program in the first-level discipline of Physics, along with three second-level doctoral degree programs in Theoretical Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, and Atomic and Molecular Physics, as well as corresponding master's degree programs. In 2020, the Physics major was approved as a """"""""National First-Class Undergraduate Major"""""""" construction site. In 2021, it was selected into the """"""""2.0 Base of the Ministry of Education for Cultivating Outstanding Students in Basic Disciplines"""""""". The school has obtained one second prize of the National Natural Science Award, one first prize of the Ministry of Education Natural Science Award, one second prize of the Beijing Science and Technology Award, and one second prize of the Zhejiang Natural Science Award.

Platform: The School of Physics has the Key Laboratory of Quantum State Construction and Measurement and Control of the Ministry of Education, the Beijing Key Laboratory of Optoelectronic Functional Materials and Micro-Nano Devices, the Key Laboratory of Neutron Scattering of Chinese Renmin University, and the Research Center for Basic Discipline of Quantum Matter States of Chinese University. It has a number of high-level discipline platforms such as a relatively complete high-end spectroscopy equipment, advanced quantum physics platforms, including ion traps and high-performance computing platforms with a calculation peak of 100 billion times, as well as a public testing platform composed of multiple sets of equipment in material preparation, physical property characterization and regulation, and a full-chain research experimental instrument and equipment of advanced computing-sample preparation-material characterization-state research , which provides strong support for scientific research and teaching.

Faculty: The School of Physics has an academic team with a reasonable knowledge structure, age structure, source structure and professional and technical position structure. As of September 2024, it has 45 full-time teachers, including 24 professors, 17 associate professors, and 4 lecturers. Among them, 13 national high-level talents were selected. All teachers have doctoral degrees and graduated from first-class universities at home and abroad, 8 of them have overseas doctoral degrees, more than 90% of the full-time teachers and more than 90% of the full-time teachers have more than 1 year of scientific research experience in overseas well-known universities or scientific research institutions.

Education: Since its establishment, the department has trained a total of 916 graduates, including 571 undergraduates, 197 master's graduates, and 148 doctoral graduates. The quality of talent training is high, the effect of moral cultivation is remarkable, and the graduates mainly go to key universities, scientific research units and key enterprises, and many graduates are currently working in well-known colleges and universities at home and abroad. At present, there are 121 undergraduate students and 196 graduate students.
